Hello Eagle Nation,
I want to take a moment to share something that really stood out to me this weekend. As I was driving through Pasadena on Saturday, I noticed one of our PHS Parent volunteer signs in a yard. I actually made a U-turn just to go back and look at it again. Then, as I kept driving, I saw another one… and another one.
That moment hit me. This is the work. This is the connection.
What Ms. Retta and our parent volunteers are building is something special. These families are stepping up to be a bridge between our school and our community serving as a resource, a voice, and a support system for others. That kind of connection strengthens everything we do on campus. The more our families feel connected and involved, the more we can focus on what matters most teaching, learning, and supporting our students at a high level.
I also want to recognize last week as Assistant Principal Appreciation Week. To our AP team thank you. The hours you put in before school, after school, on weekends it does not go unnoticed. You are the backbone of so much of our campus operations and student support.
STAAR Focus.. Showing Up Matters
As we move into another critical testing window, I want to thank you in advance for showing up and giving your very best. We have another shutdown day this Tuesday for Biology and U.S. History STAAR testing, and your presence is very important to make sure things run smoothly.
Testing days require all hands on deck. When everyone is here, prepared, and locked in, our campus runs smoothly and our students are set up for success. Thank you for the consistency, the effort, and the commitment you bring especially during these high stakes moments.

Push our students these coming months to.... Just TRY.
Not perfection. Not pressure. Consistent effort.
We introduced this message to our 9th and 10th grade students this week during assembly, and now it’s time for us to bring it to life in every classroom, every period, every day. This is the time of year where we go on double time not by adding more, but by tightening what we already do well:
- Strong lesson framing and clear expectations
- Active monitoring and feedback
- Purposeful small group intervention
- Consistent use of data to adjust instruction
Students do not struggle because they are incapable they struggle when consistency, effort, and support are missing. That’s where we come in.
Our role is to:
- Reinforce expectations daily
- Model effort and urgency
- Provide targeted support through tutorials and intervention
- Hold students accountable while encouraging growth
This is not just about a test. It’s about building habits that lead to success... now and beyond.
Just TRY.

Each committee plays role in supporting our
Focus | Leadership | Integrity | Growth | Honor | Tenacity
framework.
|
|
The Focus Committee has established four subcommittees—Surveys, High Flyer, Moments of Joy, and Compliance—with the committee’s primary direction centered on the Moments of Joy initiative. The Moments of Joy subcommittee will collaborate with the PHS A/V program to create a platform modeled after the “I’m grateful for” concept, offering teachers convenient access to recording stations placed in high‑traffic areas across campus. These stations will allow teachers to share positive experiences, celebrate the good they see, and highlight moments of joy within the school community. Examples include recognizing teachers who are “high flyers,” celebrating departments, acknowledging leadership, and spotlighting campus programs. The Moments of Joy recordings are intended to be shared monthly, providing a culture of appreciation and connection throughout the campus.

Purpose: Student behavior systems, discipline consistency, student leadership programs
Support Members: Jessica Martinez & Leticia Diaz
Leadership is currently working on...
The Leadership Committee, supported by Jessica Martinez and Leticia, is focused on improving student behavior systems, discipline consistency, and leadership opportunities, with meetings scheduled for April 6 and a full planning day on May 4. Their primary goal is to reduce Office Discipline Referrals by 5% from the original 1,546 through key strategies such as Student of the Week, 2x10 mentoring, and increased SSA involvement. Current action steps include implementing Microsoft Reflect check-ins during homeroom, expanding targeted student mentoring for connection and accountability, and exploring student-led initiatives for campus support, while also coordinating with the A-Team on procedures like restroom use, tardy policies, and lunch transitions—all grounded in the belief that all students are the shared responsibility of staff and that positive interactions matter.
|
Purpose: Chronic absenteeism solutions, family outreach, incentives, tardy interventions,
Support Members: Daniel Reyna, Aldo Prado, and Jennifer Owens
The INTEGRITY committe has continued to focus on attendance. They have implemented a Student Mentorship Program that provides teachers the opportunity to adopt 1-2 students in their classes that need intervention with attendance. Teachers will focus on these "Bubble Kids" (75%-85% attendance), by meeting with them weekly, and continue to encourage them to come to school ALL DAY, EVERYDAY!. All interventions will be tracked through a Google Form provided to all teachers.
|
Purpose: Instructional Focus and Parent Outreach

1. **Find Your Space**: Take a moment to settle into a comfortable position. You can sit at your desk or stand, whatever feels best.
2. **Close Your Eyes**: Gently close your eyes to minimize distractions. If that feels uncomfortable, soften your gaze.
3. **Take a Deep Breath**: Inhale deeply through your nose for a count of four, feeling your abdomen expand. Hold for a moment, then exhale slowly through your mouth for a count of six. Repeat this two more times.

🔹Passing Period Presence
- Be visible in the hallway during passing.
- Move students along.
- Remind them to get to class on time.
- Submit tardies consistently.
🔹Cell Phones

- If out of dress code, send students to the front office.
- Remind students to have their IDs visible.
- Most have them, they just don’t wear them.
- In the hallways, a simple “IDs out” reminder goes a long way.
🔹Bell to Bell Instruction

- No “free cell phone time.”
- Keep students engaged until the bell.

To continue supporting student organizations during this time of financial strain, snack sales must be closely monitored.
- Sales are allowed ONLY to students in the sponsoring teacher’s class period
- Before school and after school only
-
No snack sales during lunch (not permitted under state regulations)
- Students may not leave other classes to purchase snacks
If snack sales are not properly controlled or disrupt instruction, we will have to discontinue snack sales completely.
