“YOU MATTER!
Hello Eagle Nation,
This weekend reminded me once again how special Pasadena High School truly is—and how powerful it is when our students, staff, and families come together.
On Saturday, I sat in the stands at the UIL Area Band Competition, my kids beside me, surrounded by proud families. When our Mighty Eagle Band took the field, the energy was incredible nearly 250 students stretching from the 20 to the 20-yard line, filling the air with Eagle pride. Sixteen years ago, when I first walked onto this campus, our band was just over 100 members. Today, even with fewer students overall, it’s one of the largest and strongest in the region. Watching them perform gave me goosebumps it wasn’t just a show; it was a statement of who we are.
After the performance, I stopped by the Band Parents tent, where parents had set up snow cones, snacks, and food to keep our kids and families going throughout the long day. These parents were out there for hours smiling, cheering, and supporting our students from morning to late afternoon. It reminded me of something simple but powerful: when parents show up, kids rise up.
Your presence whether it’s in the stands, at a concert, a game, or a meeting sends a message that what your child is doing matters. That they matter. And that support helps build the confidence, motivation, and pride that lasts long beyond high school.
After the competition, I ran into one of my former students now a band director himself. He said something that stuck with me:
“When I see the Pasadena band now, I’ve never felt prouder to be an Eagle.”
The same pride carried into Friday night, when I raced from trick-or-treating with my kids to catch our volleyball girls at their fifth straight playoff appearance. Even though I arrived just as the match ended, I was immediately stopped by a parent from Texas A&M Consolidated who said, “Your fans are loud, your girls are amazing, and your kids play with heart.” The Athletic Director at Jersey Village echoed that same feeling saying how impressed he was with our team’s sportsmanship, spirit, and the strong turnout from our parents and fans.
That kind of pride, that kind of passion, is what makes Pasadena High School so special. People notice it. They feel it. They see it.
Let’s keep doing what we do best... building a school that makes every student proud to be an Eagle.
With appreciation and Eagle pride,
Steven Friend

Last week, Pasadena High School joined campuses across the nation in celebrating Red Ribbon Week, a time to promote healthy choices, kindness, and a drug-free lifestyle.
Each day featured a fun dress-up theme to help spread awareness and build school spirit: from wearing red to show unity, to twin day, jersey day, and more — our Eagles showed creativity and pride while standing for a positive message.
Red Ribbon Week reminds us that living drug-free isn’t just about saying “no” — it’s about saying “yes” to life, learning, and leadership.
Thank you to all the students and staff who participated and made the week meaningful, energetic, and full of Eagle Pride.
Check out some of the highlights from the week below!

At Pasadena High School, every minute counts and Eagle Time is one of the biggest ways our students are growing and succeeding.
Our recent IXL data tells a powerful story: when students consistently practice and focus on targeted skills, their growth soars. In just one month, we’ve seen our average SAT score rise from 878 to 925 and for students who have been logging in regularly and working on IXL lessons connected to their classes, the gains are even stronger. PSAT Scores saw leaps in scores.
This isn’t by chance it’s the result of dedication, alignment, and teamwork between teachers, students, and families.
When teachers use IXL to reinforce what’s being taught in class, and students stay consistent in their practice, real progress happens.
As we move into the next grading period, here’s how families can help:
✅ Encourage your student to complete their IXL lessons each week.
✅ Celebrate small wins — every skill mastered adds up!
✅ Talk with your student about what they’re working on during Eagle Time.
Together, we’re proving that practice leads to progress and that every Eagle can soar higher when we stay consistent.

Grades for the first six weeks were finalized on Friday. For students who did not pass one or more classes, we are offering Recovery Saturday sessions to help them get back on track.
The most common reason students are not passing is attendance. Missing class means missing instruction, assignments, and valuable learning time. Recovery Saturday is a chance to reset those habits and complete grade recovery work in a focused setting.
Your support is critical! Please ensure your student attends if they were not successful during the first grading period. Recovery Saturdays provide:
- Signed up for Grade Recovery by teacher
- Focused help in core subjects
- A structured opportunity to build strong attendance and academic habits
This is an important step in keeping them on pace for graduation and future opportunities.
Thank you for partnering with us to make sure every Eagle has the chance to succeed.
Check your students grades and attendance weekly through Skyward Family Help.

If you have any questions or need assistance as we begin the school year, please don’t hesitate to reach out. We’re here to help!
We look forward to partnering with you for a successful school year.
