Eagles Take FLIGHT

Dear Mighty Eagle Families,
We are off to a fantastic start this school year, and I want to thank you for the support you’ve shown our students and our school. The first two weeks have been filled with energy, positivity, and excitement, and it’s clear our Eagles are ready to soar.

As we move into the new week, our focus is on building strong habits being present, being on time, and engaging fully in every class. This week we are also launching our new IXL program in Homeroom, a tool designed to help every student strengthen skills and grow academically. Your encouragement at home makes a huge difference as we build these routines.

I’m also proud of how our students are adjusting to the new cell phone expectations. The cafeteria has come alive with conversation, laughter, and even board games, which is exactly the kind of community and connection we want to see on our campus. If you have old board or card games you’d like to donate, please send them to the front office we’d love to add them to our cafeteria game bin.

Looking ahead, please mark your calendars for Burn Sam Week in early September 2nd- 5th a tradition and I would like to see you all there! Also, don’t forget to complete your student’s Annual Verification/Student Registration in Skyward if you haven’t already.

Thank you for your partnership and for reinforcing these expectations at home.

With an Eagle Pride That Never Dies!
Thank you!
Steven Friend
Principal, Pasadena High School

Hot off the Press!!!

Yes, Your Child Has Homework! Here’s How You Can Help

Next week we’ve launched IXL as part of our Eagle Time & Homeroom periods, not to replace traditional instruction, but to enhance it.
This is not just screen time.
  • It’s a targeted, skill-building tool we’re using in short bursts to help every student fill in learning gaps and push toward higher achievement across the board, and meet them where they are at.
IXL adapts to each student.
  • Through a built-in diagnostic, it figures out where your child is academically then assigns lessons to meet them exactly where they are and help them grow. Teachers are pulling students based live data to support them and teacher are making looking at the data to guide their lessons and intervention.
Teachers are still teaching.
  • Daily classroom lessons continue as usual. But with over 2,300 students, this gives us a way to support everyone from struggling readers to top 10 performers with precision and purpose.
Why it matters:
  • The stronger our students do on STAAR, SAT/PSAT, and college-readiness tests the more opportunities they unlock. This can even lead to thousands in scholarship potential, and/or college credit. GOOD to GREAT!

Eagle Highlights

Week in Review

Pasadena High School is recognized as one of the nation's best, according to U.S. News & World Report.

TOP IN THE NATION!

Pasadena High School has been recognized by U.S. News & World Report in their 2025–2026 Best High Schools Rankings
PHS is ranked among the Top 37.5% of public high schools in the entire nation!
We’re climbing higher each year!

PHS Taking FLIGHT!

PHS has earned an Accountability Rating of 86 from the Texas Education Agency (TEA) for the 2024–2025 school year... a significant increase from 80 in 2023 and 81 in 2024.

Under the TEA’s A–F accountability system, campuses are rated based on student achievement, academic growth, and how well we’re closing performance gaps across all student groups. This year’s rating of 86 (B) places us just steps away from earning an A — and that’s exactly where we’re headed.

Free Meals for All Eagles!

We’re excited to remind our Eagle families that every student at Pasadena High School receives FREE meals this year, breakfast, lunch, and now an after-school meal for those staying late on campus.
  • Breakfast is served before school each morning.
  • Lunch is available daily in the cafeteria.
  • After-School Meal Program begins Monday, August 25, and is open to all students involved in tutorials, fine arts, athletics, or campus organizations. Hot meals will be available in the cafeteria starting at 2:35 PM.
No registration, no forms... just show up, eat, and stay fueled for learning and activities.

No Cellphones? No Problem!

So what are we going to do with no phones?
✅ We’re going to build community.
✅ We’re going to build conversation.
✅ We’re going to build friendships.
✅ We’re going to learn how to look each other in the eye and truly connect.
That’s why our cafeteria is filled with the sound of laughter, card games, Jenga towers, and real conversations. It’s loud but it’s the good kind of loud.

If you’d like to support, we’re accepting donations of games, cards, Uno, and board games for our students. Drop them off in the PHS office.

Health & Safety Reminders

Medication Reminder
  • Whenever possible, give medications at home.
  • School can only give meds sent from home with a signed LISD Medication Card.
  • Medications must be in original, labeled containers and not expired.
  • High school students may self-carry a one-day dose of non-prescription meds (Tylenol, Aleve) with parent permission; aspirin requires a doctor’s note.
  • Controlled substances (e.g., Ritalin, Adderall) must be delivered by a parent in a pharmacy-labeled bottle.
  • Inhalers require a doctor’s note; the clinic requests a backup.

Attendance Matters!

Showing up matters. Every day counts!

Because Your Future Shows Up When You Do

Attendance Reminder
Attendance isn’t just about grades, it’s about preparing for success in school, work, and life.
Why it matters:
  • Missing just 2 days a month adds up to a full month of lost learning.
  • Students with strong attendance are 7x more likely to graduate on time.
  • Regular attendance = higher GPAs & better test scores.
Life Skill: Showing up now builds reliability and resilience for the future.
Our Goal: Aim for 95% attendance or higher.

Every day counts—because your attendance is more than a number, it’s a reflection of YOU!
