Language Accessibility for All Families

Pasadena ISD is committed to ensuring that all families, regardless of primary language, have access to important school information and can participate fully in their child's education. We provide translation and interpretation services to support families who speak languages other than English.


 

Translation Services Available

Pasadena ISD provides translation support for:

  • Student Handbook and Code of Conduct – Available in Spanish upon request
  • Important school documents – Enrollment forms, progress reports, permission slips
  • School communications – Letters, announcements, email notifications
  • Parent-teacher conferences – Interpretation services available
  • School meetings – Parent meetings, IEP meetings, 504 meetings
  • Website content – Key pages translated to Spanish

 

How to Request Translation Services

For Document Translation:

For Interpretation at Meetings:

Request interpretation services at least 5 business days in advance by contacting the Pasadena High School office at (713) 740-0310. Interpretation is provided at no cost to families.


 

Emerging Bilingual Student Services

Students whose primary language is not English are eligible for specialized support to help them develop English language proficiency while maintaining academic progress.


 

Language Proficiency Assessment Committee (LPAC)

The LPAC is a committee of District personnel and at least one parent representative that:

  • Assesses your child's English language proficiency
  • Determines eligibility for English language support services
  • Identifies appropriate instructional accommodations and programs
  • Makes decisions about state-mandated assessment accommodations
  • Monitors progress and determines continued eligibility

Parent Role: Your consent is required for services recommended by the LPAC. You are invited to participate in LPAC meetings and decisions about your child's program.


 

Texas English Language Proficiency Assessment System (TELPAS)

Emerging bilingual students who qualify for services will be administered the TELPAS to assess English language proficiency in reading, writing, listening, and speaking.


 

Dual Language Programs

Two-Way Dual Language Program

Pasadena ISD offers a Two-Way Dual Language program at select elementary, middle, intermediate, and high school campuses. In this program, English and Spanish-speaking students learn together in both languages, developing bilingual and biliterate skills.

Participating Schools:

  • Elementary: Bailey, Garfield, Laura Bush, Hancock, Fisher, Pomeroy
  • Middle: Kendrick, Milstead
  • Intermediate: Miller
  • High School: Pasadena Memorial

Students in this program graduate bilingual, biliterate, and bicultural, prepared for success in an increasingly multilingual world.

Special Education and Section 504 Services for Emerging Bilingual Students

If your child is an emerging bilingual student and also receives special education or Section 504 services, decisions about instruction and assessment will be made collaboratively by the LPAC and the appropriate special education or 504 committee.
