Grading Guidelines
Pasadena High School follows Pasadena ISD grading policies designed to ensure a fair, accurate, and consistent measure of student achievement. Grades reflect mastery of course content, completion of assignments, and performance on assessments, while also emphasizing the importance of attendance, responsibility, and academic integrity. The district uses a weighted GPA system to recognize rigorous coursework and calculates class rank to support college readiness and graduation honors. Students and families can monitor academic progress through Skyward Family Access, promoting transparency and ongoing communication.
-
Weighted Grade Point Average (GPA)
Pasadena ISD uses a weighted GPA system that assigns higher point values to more rigorous coursework. Courses are categorized as Advanced (AP/Dual Credit), Honors (Pre-AP/Honors), and Regular, ensuring that students are recognized for taking challenging academic pathways.
-
Class Rank Calculation
Class rank is determined using all eligible high school course grades (grades 9–12), excluding pass/fail courses. Rankings are calculated multiple times during high school and used to determine academic standing and graduation honors such as valedictorian and salutatorian.
-
Grading Scale & Course Credit
Student grades are reported on a 0–100 scale, with course credit awarded for a final average of 70 or higher. For year-long courses, both semester grades are averaged to determine whether credit is earned.
-
Attendance & Credit Requirements
To earn credit in a course, students must attend at least 90% of class days. Students who fall between 75–90% attendance may still earn credit by completing an approved plan, while those below 75% must go through an attendance review process.
-
Progress Monitoring (Skyward Family Access)
Families can access grades, assignments, GPA, progress reports, and academic history through Skyward Family Access. This tool provides real-time updates to support student success and keep families informed.
-
Graduation Honors & Recognition
Academic honors, including Honor Roll, Academic Excellence, and top graduate distinctions, are based on weighted GPA and overall academic performance. Eligibility for top honors also requires completion of the distinguished level of achievement and meeting district criteria.
