A Message From Principal Friend

Homecoming Week 2026: Eagle Pride Never Dies!

Hello Eagle Families,
What a great week to be an Eagle! Last week's Homecoming celebrations reminded me exactly why Pasadena High School is such a special place. From the excitement of our pep rally to the football game, Homecoming Dance, and all the school spirit throughout the week, it was great seeing our students, staff, families, and alumni come together. The pride, traditions, and energy of this campus are something special. Thank you to everyone who helped make Homecoming Week memorable!

Reminder Grades are due this Friday, October 30! As a principal and a parent myself, I want to challenge all our families to take an active role in their children's education.

Unlike years ago, when parents had to wait for report cards or progress reports, we now have access to our children's academic progress every single day. Through Skyward Family Access, parents can monitor grades, missing assignments, and attendance throughout the grading period every second of the day.

Parents, grades should never be a surprise at the end of the six weeks. I encourage every family to establish a simple weekly routine. Sit down with your child, open Skyward, review their grades, celebrate their successes, discuss areas of concern, and set goals for the following week. Ask them what they are doing to improve and how you can support them.

We must remember that many of our students are only months away from adulthood. Soon, they will enter college, the workforce, the military, or technical training programs. In those environments, they will be expected to meet deadlines, show up on time, communicate, and take responsibility for their performance.

Our responsibility as educators and parents is not to make excuses for our children, but to prepare them to succeed without needing those excuses. That doesn't mean we stop supporting them. It means we teach them accountability while giving them the tools and encouragement to succeed.

Our teachers are also available to help! Students who need extra academic support should attend tutorials before they fall further behind.

As a school community, we have so much to be proud of. Increasing Attendance, Increacing Test and STAAR scores, and Eagle Pride all over campus...  Let's take that same energy and pride we saw during Homecoming and put it into our classrooms, our academics, and our students' futures.

Great schools are built when students, parents, and educators work together.

ATTENDANCE MATTERS!

Attendance Matters...

Attendance Is Up! Let's Keep Gaining Altitude!

We have some encouraging news! Our student attendance is improving compared to this time last year! Thank you to our students and families who are making attendance a priority. We are moving in the right direction, but we cannot let up now.
Year after year, one of the biggest factors affecting student academic performance is attendance. Students who consistently miss class also miss instruction, assignments, and opportunities to improve their grades.

Daily Attendance vs. Class Attendance

One of our biggest concerns continues to be students arriving late to school. Our school day begins at 7:10 AM. Students arriving after 7:30 AM are marked ABSENT for 1st period, not tardy.

Some students have excellent overall daily attendance but are accumulating absences in 1st or 2nd period. Parents, please understand that attendance for course credit is calculated for EACH individual class, not overall daily attendance.

Under Texas Education Code §25.092, students must attend at least 90% of the days a class is offered to earn credit without additional attendance recovery or review.
Our campus attendance procedures:
  • 0–9 absences: Pass the class to earn credit.
  • 10–19 absences: Pass the class AND complete required attendance recovery.
  • 20+ absences: Students are at serious risk of losing credit and may be required to retake the course, including summer school, subject to applicable attendance review and appeal procedures.
A student can have a 95 in a class and STILL lose credit due to excessive absences!

Attendance Is Also a Parent Legal Responsibility

Texas compulsory attendance laws require eligible students to attend school regularly. Ten unexcused absences or parts of days within six months in the same school year can result in a truancy court referral under Texas law, subject to applicable legal requirements and exceptions.
Our goal is always to work with families before attendance reaches that point. We continue to communicate with parents, conduct attendance conferences, develop improvement plans, and provide recovery opportunities.

Parents, We Need Your Help!

Please check Skyward regularly and review your child's attendance by class period, especially 1st and 2nd periods.

We are proud that attendance is improving, but our work is not finished. Let's keep building on that progress and make sure every Eagle earns the credits needed to graduate on time.

AP Exam Fees & Outstanding Student Balances

We are asking all families to review and address outstanding student fees.

Parents of AP Students: Please Pay Special Attention!
If you notice that your student has a higher-than-expected AP Exam fee, one possible reason is that your Annual Student Registration or household income information has not been completed or verified.

3. How to Check and Pay Student Fees
You can review outstanding student fees and make payments online through Skyward Family Access.

All Eagle LIFE READY!

A diploma is the goal. A certification is the advantage.

Our goal is for every Eagle to graduate with more than a diploma. We encourage every student to enroll in at least one Career & Technical Education (CTE) pathway and earn an industry certification before graduation. Whether your child's future includes college, the military, or the workforce, an industry certification provides real-world skills and opens doors to career opportunities from day one.
Pasadena High School celebrates earning 983 industry certifications in one school year, highlighting endless opportunities.
