Eagle Extra: TAKE FLIGHT

Student and Parent Edition

May 4, 2026

A Message From Principal Friend

Hello Eagle Nation,
This week is Teacher Appreciation Week, and I want to take a moment to recognize the incredible teachers and staff who pour into our students every single day.

What many people do not see is that there is no “clock out” time for teachers.

After school hours, they are grading papers, lesson planning, answering emails, sponsoring organizations, tutoring students, preparing for the next day, and showing up for kids far beyond the school day. Here at Pasadena High School, our staff supports 42 student organizations, athletic events, competitions, performances, tutorials, and countless student activities... all because they care deeply about our students and this community, and theres no "OT" for that work.

Their work matters. Their impact matters.

We would love for our students and families to help us show appreciation to a teacher or staff member who has made a difference this year. If a teacher has supported, encouraged, challenged, or helped your student grow, please take a moment to fill out this form and share some love with them:

We also want to remind students and families that we only have a few weeks left in the school year. Now is the time to:
  • Catch up on grades
  • Attend tutorials
  • Complete missing assignments
  • Check attendance and make-up hours

Unfortunately, we have already filed to Harris County Court against several students this past week due to attendance issues. Please do not let that become your situation. Attendance matters, and by law, students must meet attendance requirements in order to receive credit for their courses.

Parents, please continue checking grades and attendance weekly through Skyward and communicating with teachers if support is needed.

Let’s finish this year strong together and continue showing what Eagle Nation is all about.

Eagle Pride Never Dies.

Key Reminders

Court Filing for Non-Attendance

Texas Compulsory Attendance Law
Under Texas Education Code Law, students ages 6–19 must attend school every day that instruction is offered unless they qualify for a legal exemption. Parents are legally responsible for ensuring their child attends school.

When Absences Become Truancy
Truancy is based on unexcused absences.
A student is considered truant if they have:
  • 3 unexcused absences within a 4-week period, or
  • 10 unexcused absences within a 6-month period

What the School Must Do?
By law, schools must:
  1. Notify parents about absences
  2. Attempt to hold attendance conferences with measures of support.

Court Filing for Non-Attendance
If absences continue after interventions:
  • The school is required by law to file a truancy case in court
  • Both the student and parent/guardian are required to appear in court
Courts may order:
  • Mandatory school attendance
  • Counseling or services
  • Fines or other court-directed actions

Our Goal
Our goal is not court involvement it is student success. We want every student in class, learning, and on track for graduation. If your child is struggling with attendance, please contact the school counselor our Assistant Principal so we can help early.

Attendance today builds success tomorrow.

THE SWEEPS! Tardy, ID, Cell Phone, Dress Code

Last week, Pasadena High School conducted a campus tardy sweep and identified over 130 students. Please note: these sweeps will continue throughout the semester.
Campus sweeps will focus on:
  • Tardies
  • Student IDs
  • Dress Code
  • Cell Phones
These sweeps are not meant to be a “gotcha.” They are reminders to help all students follow expectations that keep our campus running smoothly, reduce distractions, and keep everyone safe.
Cell Phone Policy (Required by State Law)
Texas state law requires that cell phones be completely put away during the school day from 7:10 AM to 2:35 PM.
  • If a phone is visible or being used, it will be collected.
  • Saying “I was putting it away” is not an acceptable excuse.
  • When a phone is collected, campus procedures will be followed.
  • Students should not argue with staff — the phone is collected because the law was violated.
We appreciate the support of our families as we reinforce these expectations. When students follow the rules, it helps create a focused learning environment for everyone.

Jesus Club

"Rooted," a student led Jesus Club will be meeting every Thursday after school from 2:45-4pm in room 2407
