Student and Parent Edition

A Message From Principal Friend

Hello Eagle Nation,
I want to share something special I experienced this weekend. As I was driving through Pasadena, I started noticing Pasadena High Parent volunteer signs in front yards across our community. I saw one… then another… then another. I even turned around just to take it all in.

That moment made me proud...

These signs represent something bigger our parents stepping up to be leaders in our community. Some of these parents students have already graduated from PHS and they are still supporting their school and their community. Through the work led by Ms. Retta, our parent volunteers and Friday meetings are helping connect families to our school, answering questions, offering support, and making sure no family feels alone.
When schools and families work together, our students win. That is exactly what we are building here at Pasadena High School.

STAAR Testing – This Week Matters
We have an important STAAR testing day this Tuesday for Biology and U.S. History, and this is a critical time for our students.
Students this is your opportunity to show what you know and demonstrate the hard work you’ve been putting in. Take this seriously, come prepared, and give your best effort.
Parents thank you for making sure your student is present, on time, and ready. Being here matters. Effort matters. This is a big step in your child’s academic journey.

To our students thank you for showing up, staying focused, and giving it everything you have. That’s what Eagle Pride is all about.
Let’s have a strong week, Eagles.

Credit Recovery/Grade Recovery

As we enter the final six weeks of the school year, it’s important that all students stay focused and finish strong.
Grade Recovery and Credit Recovery opportunities are available for students who need to improve grades or earn missing credits. These programs are designed to provide structured support and help students get back on pace academically.
We encourage all parents and students to:
  • Check grades regularly in Skyward
  • Review credits earned vs. credits needed for graduation
  • Communicate with teachers about missing assignments or progress
  • Contact your counselor to confirm if grade recovery or credit recovery is needed
Do not wait—this is the last six weeks to make necessary improvements. Taking action now can make all the difference in ensuring a successful end to the school year.

Saturday Recovery Opportunity – April 18th (8:00 AM – 11:00 AM)

Here’s your revised newsletter write-up with the date and time included:
Saturday Recovery Opportunity – April 18th (8:00 AM – 11:00 AM)
Mark your calendars! This Saturday, April 18th from 8:00 AM – 11:00 AM, Pasadena High School will host a Recovery Day for students who need additional time and support to get back on track.
Students can attend to:
  • Complete assignments for Grade Recovery
  • Work on Credit Recovery courses
  • Make up missed attendance hours
This is a valuable opportunity during the final six weeks of school to make up ground and stay on pace for graduation.
If your student needs to recover grades, credits, or attendance hours, they should plan to attend.
We encourage parents to check grades and attendance in Skyward and ensure their student takes full advantage of this time.
Together, as Mighty Eagle Nation, we will finish strong!

🌟 Thank You, Future PECHS Families! 🌟

Pasadena Early College High School was proud to host our “Claim Your Spot” Pasadena Early College High School (PECHS) Meeting, and we are thrilled by the outstanding turnout from our incoming students and families.
It was truly exciting to see our cafeteria filled with engaged parents and students eager to learn more about the opportunities PECHS offers. Families asked thoughtful questions, connected with our staff, and took important steps toward beginning their Early College journey with confidence.
We are grateful for the trust our new PECHS parents place in Pasadena High School and for their commitment to supporting their students as they take on the challenge of earning college credit while still in high school. Your presence and participation made the evening a tremendous success.
We look forward to welcoming the PECHS Class of 2030 and partnering with you for a strong, successful start.

Key Reminders

Court Filing for Non-Attendance

Texas Compulsory Attendance Law
Under Texas Education Code Law, students ages 6–19 must attend school every day that instruction is offered unless they qualify for a legal exemption. Parents are legally responsible for ensuring their child attends school.

When Absences Become Truancy
Truancy is based on unexcused absences.
A student is considered truant if they have:
  • 3 unexcused absences within a 4-week period, or
  • 10 unexcused absences within a 6-month period

What the School Must Do?
By law, schools must:
  1. Notify parents about absences
  2. Attempt to hold attendance conferences with measures of support.

Court Filing for Non-Attendance
If absences continue after interventions:
  • The school is required by law to file a truancy case in court
  • Both the student and parent/guardian are required to appear in court
Courts may order:
  • Mandatory school attendance
  • Counseling or services
  • Fines or other court-directed actions

Our Goal
Our goal is not court involvement it is student success. We want every student in class, learning, and on track for graduation. If your child is struggling with attendance, please contact the school counselor our Assistant Principal so we can help early.

Attendance today builds success tomorrow.

THE SWEEPS! Tardy, ID, Cell Phone, Dress Code

Last week, Pasadena High School conducted a campus tardy sweep and identified over 130 students. Please note: these sweeps will continue throughout the semester.
Campus sweeps will focus on:
  • Tardies
  • Student IDs
  • Dress Code
  • Cell Phones
These sweeps are not meant to be a “gotcha.” They are reminders to help all students follow expectations that keep our campus running smoothly, reduce distractions, and keep everyone safe.
Cell Phone Policy (Required by State Law)
Texas state law requires that cell phones be completely put away during the school day from 7:10 AM to 2:35 PM.
  • If a phone is visible or being used, it will be collected.
  • Saying “I was putting it away” is not an acceptable excuse.
  • When a phone is collected, campus procedures will be followed.
  • Students should not argue with staff — the phone is collected because the law was violated.
We appreciate the support of our families as we reinforce these expectations. When students follow the rules, it helps create a focused learning environment for everyone.

Jesus Club

"Rooted," a student led Jesus Club will be meeting every Thursday after school from 2:45-4pm in room 2407

Habits FOR Success!

Grades for the first six weeks were finalized on Friday. For students who did not pass one or more classes, we are offering Recovery Saturday sessions to help them get back on track.
The most common reason students are not passing is attendance. Missing class means missing instruction, assignments, and valuable learning time. Recovery Saturday is a chance to reset those habits and complete grade recovery work in a focused setting.
Your support is critical! Please ensure your student attends if they were not successful during the first grading period. Recovery Saturdays provide:
  • Signed up for Grade Recovery by teacher
  • Focused help in core subjects
  • A structured opportunity to build strong attendance and academic habits
This is an important step in keeping them on pace for graduation and future opportunities.

Thank you for partnering with us to make sure every Eagle has the chance to succeed.

Check your students grades and attendance weekly through Skyward Family Help.

No Cell Phones - New State Law

New State Law: Personal Devices
Per Texas House Bill 1481, phones and personal devices must be put away during the school day. Students may use devices after 2:36 PM. Thank you for reinforcing this expectation at home.
  • Cellphones
  • Bluetooth Headphones(Airpods)
  • Personal Laptops or iPads
  • Smartwatches
