Pasadena community organizations band together to support literacy this holiday season

Asbury Methodist Church, The Barbara Bush Foundation, the City of Pasadena, the Pasadena ISD Education Foundation and 10 other area churches of various denominations joined forces to address a need created by the COVID-19 pandemic.

As school districts across the state and nation deal with dropping grades and engagement, these organizations understand the need for a strong foundation in reading and wanted to do their part by providing a book to every first grader in Pasadena.

“We know that one of the best ways we can partner in this community is to help children succeed,” said Reverend Lindsay Kirkpatrick of Asbury United Methodist Church.  “We know students have experienced several set backs with school this year, so by providing a book to every first grader in Pasadena it is our hope to inspire a love of reading and learning.”

Just in the first grade alone Pasadena ISD has over 3,400 students.  These leaders hope to raise enough money through donations earmarked specifically for Pasadena ISD students.  Further, the Barbara Bush Foundation has offered to make a dollar for dollar match for all money raised.
